Group Workouts
Have you ever skipped that last track or swim interval because nobody was there to keep you going? Have you ever taken it a bit easier than you should while cycling up a hill because you didn't have any competition? If so, then you understand the benefit of working out with others.
Throughout each week, FMRC provides multiple opportunities for members to train with partners or in groups. We invite you to join us sometime:
Monday Morning Swim Workouts (Summer) - 6 a.m. open water swim at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton. Must be an ORCAS member.
Tuesday Morning Track Workouts (Year Round) - 6:00 a.m. at California High School in San Ramon. Workouts always include a gradual warm-up, some form drills and a pre-planned routine of intervals. Distances and speeds vary based on abilities, race schedules and training programs.
Wednesday Night Group Run (Year Round) - 6:30 p.m. at Forward Motion Sports in Danville. A variety of Spring/Summer routes utilizing the nearby Ironhorse Trail or Fall/Winter routes through the neighborhoods of Danville are available. Distances can vary from a couple of miles to 8-10 miles and, with a typical attendance of 30-50 runners, there is always someone to pace with.
Thursday Morning Tempo Run (Summer and Fall) - Mornings in Pleasanton or Livermore. The group changes this workout throughout the year from tempo runs to hill repeats. Check the Yahoo group page for that week's location.
Thursday Night Ride (March - October) - Weekly ride originating in Pleasanton near Fairgrounds, 25-30 miles, departing at 6 p.m. from Jeff & Janine Durban's House.
Friday Evening Open Water Swim (Spring and Summer) - 6:00 p.m. at Shadow Cliffs Park in Pleasanton. This workout is organized by the Shadow Cliffs Orcas, which is also the group that administers an open water swimming test to allow members to swim in the lake. Each member of the group is able to do a self-designed open water swim workout, or he/she can remain within the lane lines if desired.
Saturday Group Bike Ride (Year Round) - 8:00 a.m. at the caboose by the railroad museum in Danville. A variety of routes traversing the East Bay Area are used, pace is best suited for intermediate or advanced cyclists and distances are generally in the 40-55 mile range, with opportunities to add or subtract miles according to your training needs. Specifics about each week's route are communicated to the club membership prior to Saturday each week.
Sunday Trail Run (Seasonal) - During the Spring, Summer and Fall, a group periodically gets together to explore the beautiful trails of the East Bay Area. A different location and route is selected every 2-3 weeks, and runs generally commence between 8:00-9:00 a.m. Specifics about the meeting location and route are communicated to the club membership beforehand.
Additional group training opportunities
In addition to the weekly recurring workouts listed above, there are numerous opportunities to join club members for ad-hoc runs, swims and rides.
Also, the club often sponsors specialized clinics for members. Upcoming events will include a New Triathlete Program, open water swim clinics and a running form optimization clinic.
