Devil Mountain Run Sale

Bike Fitting

Professional bike fitter Paul Kundrat will be providing discounted bike fits to Club members on May 20th, 21st, and 22nd.  Each day will have four 2-hour time slots available for fittings. Paul will be providing a complete fitting including pedal/cleat positioning, seat height/tilt/horizontal position, reach, drop, and make recommendations on crank length and frame size for the low price of $190.  Fittings typically run $300+ so we are very fortunate to have this deal through the Club.

Paul will have parts available for purchase at a discount (stems, etc).

Sign-ups are first come first serve.  Please click here to reserve your spot.

Plan to bring your bike (road or tri) and your cycling shoes. Wear cycling shorts and jersey or other snug fitting top (it is hard to gauge position on the bike if you are wearing a big baggy shirt). If you are having a tri bike fitted and have an aero helmet you use for races, bring the helmet to optimize your aero position.

Don't be late! The fitting will take the entire 2 hours to complete and as you can see, Paul will be on a tight schedule.

The bike fits will be held behind the Forward Motion store in Danville.  Look for the FMRC tent.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Newbie Tri Program

The concept of a newbie tri group is to bring together those club members who want to do their first triathlon or have limited experience (maybe one sprint tri)and have them train together in a cohesive group - with the ultimate goal of completing the Tri For Real in September.

Our first meeting will give you a chance to find out more about the training program, ask questions, understand the training plan and meet your fellow newbies. The meeting will last for about 60 minutes and then we will head out on the Iron Horse trail for a super easy 3 mile run. We would also like everyone to bring their bike so we can take a quick visual inspection of your ride and let you know if there are things you need to get fixed prior to the start of the program.

I would HIGHLY encourage you to make every effort to attend the kick off meeting - it will get you started on the right foot!

When: Saturday April 2

Time: 4:30 PM - 6:30pm

Where: Meet at Forward Motion Sports Danville - we will plan to gather in the back parking lot under the tents

Who: Anyone who is interested in learning about triathlon and committing to training for our newbie tri race - Tri For Real on Sunday, September 18 at Shadowcliffs in Pleasanton.

Why: Because all the cool kids are doing it.

What to bring: Running clothes, your bike and all of your questions

How much does it all cost?
: $40 for the entire program!

Do I need to be a member of FMRC to participate?: Yes, this program is meant to benefit those members who have paid their dues and are active FMRC club members. If you know someone who wants to participate in the newbie program, simply have them sign up for the club first!

What if I can barely swim?: That's OK. We'll have a TON of focus on swimming for you.

Who to contact with questions?:  Chris McCrary  or you can call me at (415) 215-3412.

Look forward to seeing all of you at the kick off meeting!

4th annual Cycle for ALS

Benefiting ALS TDI and The Blazeman Foundation

Join FMRC members for all or part of a 16.5 hour spin-a-thon on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at ClubSport in San Ramon to raise money to fight ALS. Why 16.5 hours? That's the time it took triathlete Jon Blais to complete the Ironman Hawaii course in 2005 while battling Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Since participating in this fundraiser, FMRC members have raised more than $55,000 towards the fight against ALS, contributing to research grants that have resulted in major breakthroughs.

This year, we're changing it up a bit. In addition to eleven 90-minute spin sessions, we're holding a running team challenge. Now runners can get in the game without having to figure out how to clip in, adjust tension or deal with "seat" issues.

Big Kahuna…a Half Ironman

by Janet Tsuji

Pamela and Sharley think I can do it. They said I was ready. I laughed!  After all, I’m still a newbie! I had just done an Olympic distance and struggled, big time. I finished 198th out of 242 women. I’m not ready…no way.  But, Pamela and Sharley can be very convincing.  Before I knew it, I was registered.

BK weekend. Show time! I was as ready as I was ever going to be at that point. I was so happy to have several FMRC teammates there to share the experience with me: Sharley, Pamela (they had better both be there since they talked me into it!), Chuck Ojeda, Glenn Puzio, Sherpa Sue Hill, Kim Bowers, Mike Statz and my fellow “Super Foxes," Kitty and Trixie (aka Kathy Dilingham and Kaaren Smith).

Our hotel was directly across the street from transition. How amazing is that?! Once we checked in, we made our way down to the expo. It was a pretty cold day…overcast and windy…with the same expected for Sunday. By that time, I was getting pretty nervous. That ocean swim was scaring the beejeebers out of me. So we headed down to put our feet in the water and check out the temp. Hmmm…not as bad as I was expecting. Folsom actually felt colder! I relaxed....just a little.

Race day dawned crazy early; our wake-up call was before 5 a.m. Pamela and I headed over a bit after 5 thinking we were going to be one of the first ones there. Wrong! Most of the closest racks were already taken. Sharley and Chuck were already there, already set up.  Holy cow…were we late??! We racked our bikes and headed back to the hotel to eat breakfast and gather our gear. It was nice to be able to go back and forth…especially to use the hotel bathroom and put on our wetsuits. Back at the bikes, I was so excited to see Kathy and Kaaren. They were in the newbie group with me last year, and it meant so much to me that they appeared in T1 with their beaming smiles and cheers way before the butt crack of dawn, on a Sunday morning, for my first Half IM. There were a few tears…..
