Tiffany Deusebio
Sports Bio: Started running when I was 21 because I had friends who would go to runs and then great breakfasts and cocktails afterwards, and I was finally old enough to participate. After a number of years of running just for the location and "free" T-shirts, I moved to Danville and discovered Forward Motion. I met a group of people that would actually push me and I found that I actually had some talent!
One day while at Lake Tahoe and waiting for my husband to ride around the lake I saw an article regarding Team in Training, and before I knew it I had signed up for a marathon. My goal was just to do one to say I had, but I really enjoyed it and then proceeded to work on getting better at that. At this point I have done 14 marathons and qualified for Boston in all except the first one (when I didn't even know what Boston was and missed it by four minutes.)
Race Career Highlights: 3:11 marathon at age 40. Second place master female at Santa Barbara Marathon; overall female winner at Clarsburg Half Marathon; 3rd place female at Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon even after falling hard enough to necessitate a trip to the emergency room.
What is your #1 goal for 2011: I would really like to work on my "shorter" distance speed and improve in my 5k and 10ks - hoping to shave a minute off of both.
Retail Affiliation: Forward Motion Sports not only has a great selection of everything I need, but they take the time to understand my needs and point me in the right direction.
Why are you a member of FMRC: It is an incredible group of welcoming and encouraging people who get together for such a variety of fun, healthy activities. I am stronger and healthier for much more active because of being a member..
Running Shoe: Avia Stoltz trail shoe is my fun shoe! So light and easy to wear that they make me want to do more trail runs.
Nutrition: CytoSport - I love that it is not too sweet, not too sour and dissolves immediately. Very easy to use, and it tastes good too!
Media: Marin General newspaper covered my overall win of the 2009 Memorial Day 5k.
What do you eat race morning: I have a tradition/superstition that I always eat oatmeal before a marathon. On shorter days I'll just have a slice of toast with peanut butter and CytoSport FastTwitch.
Favorite Training Run: The Ironhorse trail from Danville down to Crow Canyon and up and over the Crow Canyon hills. Once I make it over, I get the great 5 mile downslope down Camino Tassajara back into Danville
Favorite iTunes Playlist: I'm all over the place with music, but mainly I listen to R&B or '80s (high school) rock. Currently I'm loving Pink's "Raise Your Glass."
Who is you mentor/idol: Not any one person in particular. I get much more out of seeing the "average" person who is really focusing and striving for whatever they've set their mind to and thus seeing results. Reminds me that I too can accomplish what I put my mind to if I'll just work for it.
Favorite Food: The joke is that I've never met a carbohydrate I didn't love. Also, cheese is my weakness. If it wasn't so bad for me, I think macaroni and cheese would be the world's most perfect food!
